Spain defeated Netherlands with 1-0 score to win its first World Cup. Andres Iniesta scored the winning goal in extra time. Netherlands had missed good chance to score after 75 minutes of World Cup final. It’s the first World Cup victory for Spain. Spain came into the tournament as co-favourites with Brazil and held down the second spot in the FIFA rankings when the tournament began.

Arjen Robben took a through ball from playmaker Wesley Sneijder and went one-on-one with goalkeeper Iker Casillas, but his 62nd-minute shot was kicked out for a corner by Casillas’ right foot.  In the knockout stage they beat rival Portugal 1-0 in the round of 16, ousted Paraguay by the same score in the quarter-finals and edging Germany 1-0 in the semifinal.

They now hold both the European championship, won in 2008 and World Cup 2010.
